History
Boulder B-cycle was founded in 2011 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. The system launched in May of 2011 with 12 stations and grew to 15 by the end of the year. In 2012, the system grew to 22 stations, and in 2014 grew to 38 stations. Boulder B-cycle is not only one of the oldest 3rd Generation bike share programs in the country, but also one of the most innovative. In 2012, Boulder B-cycle became the first bike share program in a cold weather climate to remain open year-round, and has recently developed experimental partnerships with other participants in the sharing and green economies. Boulder B-cycle has continued to expand its service area to serve as many of Boulder's residents, employees, students, and visitors as possible.
