The Public Works Department consists of building, engineering and maintenance divisions. The department operates an engineering services section that prepares plans and specifications for public works improvements related to streets, storm drains, sewers, traffic signals, bridges and parks. It s building division enforces public safety, health, welfare and property maintenance standards for public and private developments, as well as provides construction management oversight services for public construction projects. The Public Works Department s maintenance division is responsible for the repair of gutters, sidewalks, medians and public areas. It is governed by The City of West Covina in California, which additionally manages planning, risk management, police, fire and human resources departments. The city is comprised of more than 111,400 citizens and covers an area of over 15 square miles.
