The Valley Humane Society, founded in 1987, provides animal care and adoption services for dogs and cats. Committed to its no-kill policy, the organization cares for surrendered pets and works to find new homes for them.
The society is also deeply involved in programs for the community, running a pet-food pantry for low-income families with pets (AniMeals), a pet visitation program for seniors and wounded veterans (Pet Therapy), educational programs to help kids learn about being responsible pet owners (Keeler's Kids and Critter Camp) and a fund to help provide financial assistance for emergency veterinary care (the Just Like New Fund).
This society moved from a small building on Spring Street in downtown Pleasanton to its current location on Nevada Street in April 2007, and will soon begin construction of a new 5,000-square-foot animal shelter.
