History
On July 14, 1974, the California State Board of Education approved the Joint Powers Agreement between El Rancho Unified School District and Whittier Union High School District that created the Tri-Cities Regional Occupational Program. Mr. William B. La Porte wrote the proposal for Tri-Cities ROP and along with Mr. Ron Franklin and Mr. Denzil Morrissey presented it to the California State Board of Education on July 14, 1974, and it was approved. The first Board of Management meeting was held July 30, 1974, at Monte Vista High School. Dr. Norm Eisen presided as President of the Board of Management. Ronald Franklin was elected Vice President, Art Hobson was elected Clerk, and Eugene Wineinger and Henry Sheller were the two additional members. Bill La Porte was selected as the first Director of Tri-Cities.

Tri-Cities ROP prepares students for college AND careers by offering excellent career technical education leading to employment, industry certification, or post-secondary education. Our Goals include increasing student achievement, increasing organizational effectiveness and efficiency, and developing business, community, and educational partnerships to ensure all classes lead to industry certification, post-secondary education, or employment. Our services to students include career-technical education classes including A-G approved courses, maintaining articulation with community colleges, and providing students with a personal learning plan. We provide student internships, career guidance resources, interview preparation, and industry certifications while assisting them in developing a professional resume and portfolio. Our specialty in providing REAL project-based learning and worked-based learning assists students in selecting a college major that suits their interests, guiding them in the direction of attaining a meaningful, productive career and a strong desire for lifelong learning. Tri-Cities ROP is a WASC Accredited learning institution.
