The Comic Book Box is a fresh, bright change from traditional comic book specialty shops. Natural light spills in from the front windows and shows off widely-spaced, tidy racks and shelves of comics, graphic novels, games and action figures. A children's section is prominently located near the front of the store. It is owner Kathy Bottarina's mission to provide a personalized, safe and friendly experience to comic book fans (casual and serious) in her hidden gem of a shop. Tucked in an inner courtyard near Rotten Robbies on Southwest Boulevard, The Comic Book Box is woman and child friendly, setting it apart from the usual pin-up images and beyond PG-13 displays seen in other shops.
Kathy believes that comics are a great way to get kids to start reading and keep reading. Her friendly face breaks into a smile as she describes the challenge of getting to know a customer's likes and dislikes, even what movies, books and cities they enjoy before recommending a product. She knows that happy customers are return customers, but more than that , she loves her product, and cares about offering a great experience.
