History
Sun Yat Sen Chinese Institute was established in 1982 as a nonprofit educational institution that offers Mandarin Chinese classes to children and adults interested in learning the Chinese language. Our mission is to provide an encouraging environment to learn the Chinese language, traditional Chinese culture, and to foster a life-long interest and appreciation for it. We are committed to creating an inclusive environment across all our programs regardless of race, age, ethnicity, disability, etc. We offer arts, language, and culture classes focusing on conversational Chinese to community members who do not have an Asian heritage background with little or no conversational ability. Our approach to our Chinese Language & Culture courses is to develop the students' listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in a practical sense using the traditional writing system, so English will be used only to help students understand content and instructions.
