Founded in 1914 by the California legislature, the State Compensation Insurance Fund is a self-supporting, nonprofit enterprise that provides workers' compensation insurance to California employers at cost with no financial obligation to the public. The company has a staff of state fund adjusters, professional loss-control representatives, and industrial hygiene and ergonomics specialists. Its employees provide full services for employers and their injured workers. Located in Fresno, Calif., the State Compensation Insurance Fund serves more than 250 employer associations. The insurer operates through some 20 offices throughout the state of California, where it covers some 265,000 policyholders.
