Established by the California Legislature in 1914, State Compensation Insurance Fund is a nonprofit enterprise that offers workers' compensation insurance to California-based employers. The organization offers free insurance protection coverage to individuals through their employers. State Compensation Insurance Fund operates with a network of more than 250 employer associations that offer various coverage policies. The organization has a team of insurance adjusters, loss-control representatives, and industrial hygiene and ergonomics specialists. It specializes in customized loss control services, medical cost management and antifraud initiatives. In addition, State Compensation Insurance Fund has a 26-member special investigation unit and more than 75 investigative liaison officers. The organization maintains an office in Bakersfield, Calif.
