History
South Central LAMP was founded in the wake of the civil unrest of 1992. Eight congregations of Catholic sisters came together to survey the neighborhood and perform a thorough needs assessment in the South Central community. What they found lacking were parent education and English skills for the Latino immigrant community, especially with childcare offered on-site. Today, South Central LAMP is a community-based nonprofit organization, with 501c3 status. Although South Central LAMP programs do not include any religious teachings, founding congregations continue to be closely connected and supportive of South Central LAMP through volunteers, grants and board membership. The following are LAMP's Sponsoring Congregations: Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary Society of the Holy Child Jesus Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet Sisters of the Holy Family Sisters of Notre Dame Sisters of St. Louis Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary Daughters of Charity
