History
Sheahan Stephen knew it was integral to learn all aspects of the gemstone trade - from working with miners in Sri Lanka for five years, to rough purchasing, thermal treatment and cutting. He expanded his expertise with export and distribution, whereupon he moved into business as a merchant. Sheahan currently sits on the Board of Directors for GIA San Francisco as the Vice President and AGS San Francisco as Secretary.
Specialties
Sheahan Stephen is one of the world's foremost authorities on sapphires. With extensive experience at the mining level as well as with his profound knowledge of sapphires, rubies and other gemstones Sheahan's expertise has made him a highly sought after professional. He is a well-respected and frequently requested speaker for the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), American Gem Trade Association (AGTA) and American Gem Society (AGS). Because ethical sourcing and giving back to the mining community is important to Sheahan, he works directly with the Sri Lankan mining community and purchases all rough gemstones from the miners themselves and in turn processes them at his facility in Sri Lanka.
