History
Shared Science was the brain child of three Long Beach parents, Jennifer Crans, Michelle Wells and Patricia Tsoiasue, who saw a need for more Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics activities for all Long Beach kids. Shared Science intervenes on a local level. Our objective was, and still is, to reach out to as many students possible within our community, providing the possibility and opportunity of a launching pad. From there they'll be able to choose for themselves whether science, engineering and mathematics will become lifelong pursuits. Because we are a parent-driven, parent-volunteer organization we request that parents and/or guardians plan on assisting with at least one build session date when your child participates. This allows us to keep participation costs as low as possible, keeping our programming affordable and accessible to all.
Specialties
Shared Science is a nonprofit organization formed for the educational and charitable purpose of creating and delivering physical science and engineering learning opportunities to school-aged children (K-12), within Southern California, and initially within the City of Long Beach. We bring together funding and equipment resources, identify gifted engineers and instructors, tailor the best curriculum available, and then bundle it all together to benefit and captivate the imaginations of young students. The courses we offer include summer camps, after school robotics teams, and LEGO education classes at schools throughout Long Beach. This summer, we're offering a hybrid learning experience of online and in-person STEM education summer camps!
