Savannah’s Organic Ranch (SOR) was founded by Joe and Lisa Sachen, following the loss of their 8-year-old daughter, Savannah, on May 18, 2007, to a rare form of pediatric cancer. The organization’s mission is to continue the legacy of Savannah’s passion for people, animals and nature by educating children and adults on the benefits of organic foods and growing them in an earth-friendly and sustainable manner, which helps not only our bodies, but the wildlife and the earth we all share.
SOR provides educational opportunities for children by promoting benefits of organic gardening in an effort toward fighting pediatric cancer. It achieves its mission through several existing and planned programs: engaging students in planting organic gardens at schools and educating them on the process of harvesting and sustainability of the earth, field trips for children’s groups to local organic farms with organized activities and educational opportunities, speaking engagements and educational seminars for parents on the organic process and supporting local farming entities and a "Sowing the Seeds of Love” program that provides funding to distribute DVD players to children at hospitals undergoing chemotherapy and other difficult treatments and procedures.
