History
Saratoga High School Varsity Basketball Coach Mike Davey started Saratoga Basketball Camp to help develop basketball skills in younger aged children. His own two girls have attended camp since they were in the third grade. As a teacher and a parent, he knew that the camp format had to specifically teach skills in a language and delivery elementary and middle school students understand. He knows what motivates these campers, and how to make every camper to be successful and feel confident. In 2007, Coach Trevor Naas was a tremendous addition because of his vast knowledge of the game and drills, his coaching experience, and his experience as a middle school teacher. Also in 2007, Operations Director Alvaro Orozco joined the team to coordinate all camp operations. He has previous summer camp and business experience, and is a third grade teacher. Coach Davey, Coach Naas, and Alvaro work together to provide a positive environment to help every camper succeed and feel confident.
Specialties
The Saratoga Basketball Camp which runs in late June and early July is an excellent opportunity for young kids from entering third grade through 8th grade to improve their basketball skills and have a fun time while learning the game. This format helps every camper feel successful and confident regardless the age or ability. Campers have included those learning to shoot baskets to those that play at a high competitive level. Each camp session has warm-up drills, skill instruction, drills, and competitions/games to motivate campers. The same format is followed in the morning and afternoon, so campers can attend either or both. All net proceeds from the camp go to the Global Ischemia Foundation which was created to encourage research for brain injuries. The Global Ischemia Foundation is determined to find a way to help ten of thousands of people in this condition.
