San Miguel Fire Protection has been serving the community since 1988, and comprises over 47 square miles. The district and its staff protect residential, commercial, industrial, condominium projects, small and large multi-unit apartment properties, as well as the urban/wildland interface open space. There are over 128,000 residents and San Miguel responds to an average of 9,000 fire and medical-related emergencies each year.
There is a managing Board of Directors who are elected by the community to serve four-year terms. Each year, the fire district hosts a community "Safe and Sound" Fire Expo and participates in many community and school events.
There are eight fire stations in the overall Fire Protection District, and five are in the Mount Helix/Casa de Oro/Spring Valley community. They are:
