History
The San Diego Center for the Blind is the only program of its kind to provide independent living training for blind and vision-impaired adults in the entire San Diego region. The program is offered at no charge to our students and transportation is provided to and from classes. In 2010, we opened our Assistive Technology Center and Store. As a private, nonprofit 501(c) 3 organization, we are funded by contributions and bequests.
Specialties
Our Assistive Technology Store offers aids and devices for people with no vision to those with changing vision. Products include handheld magnifiers, desktop video magnifiers, specialized lighting, kitchen aids, writing guides, talking watches, large print products, Braille paper, sunshields, mobility canes/support canes, games and gift ideas. We also offer appointments with a low vision optometrist to help you decide which magnification products will best suit your needs. The appointment with our optometrist may be covered by your insurance! Ask for our Low Vision Clinic for more information on the appointment.
