Caltrans manages more than 45,000 miles of California's highway and freeway lanes, provides inter-city rail services, assists more than 100 public general aviation airports and works with local agencies. Caltrans carries out its mission of improving mobility across California with six primary programs: aeronautics, highway transportation, mass transportation, transportation planning, administration and its equipment service center. The city of Riverside, Calif., is in Caltran s district eight, that covers Riverside and San Bernardino Counties in southern California. It is the largest of 12 statewide Caltrans districts and covers more than 28,000 square miles of land. There are four interstates and 32 state routes totaling 7,200 lane miles within its boundaries.
