Rio Vista Elementary School teaches children from pre-Kindergarten through fifth grade. Nearly 400 children go to the school, and test scores have risen steadily in recent years. The school also has a respected GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) program and has been designated as a School for Advanced Studies (SAS).
The school feels strongly about dance, theater and visual arts, and there are technology classes and garden projects in the Hidden Garden located in the park next to the school. Parent involvement is an integral part of the school's philosophy. The school has a Parent Center and many parent advisory committees. An active PTA (riovistapta.org) helps supplement school programs with fundraisers. The school's mascot is the Roadrunner.
