Formed in 1994, The Puente Hills Landfill Native Habitat Preservation Authority which is involved in acquisition, restoration and management of open space in the Puente Hills for preservation of the land in perpetuity, with the primary purpose to protect the biological diversity. Based in Whittier, Calif., the Habitat Authority manages approximately 3,860 acres of preserved public open space, of which 1,878 belongs the Habitat Authority. It has also been engaging in activities, such as Park Management and Natural Resource Management and provides many other services, such as outreach and trail access.
