History
I've spent countless hours educating my peers on the great benefits the students will get as they progress through the grades utilizing the strategies that the Common Core Standards support, such as problem solving and communication. I've spent the last 16 years as a teacher and Math Coordinator educating teachers, parent and students in the area of problem solving in elementary and middle school math. So, as we find ourselves in the middle of the first year of the implementation of the Common Core Standards in California, I felt moved to leave my career as a public school teacher to be available full time to support parents and their children in the mathematics skills necessary to be successful in this 21st century, specifically: problem solving and communication with deep conceptual understanding. When students learn the concepts by formulating their own strategies and using different pathways to get their solution, math becomes exciting, fun, and the skills much easier to retain.

I have been teaching this way for many years and there is a remarkable difference in a student's ability to retain the skill when they have learned it through problem solving, as opposed to just being directly taught the skill.
