A California Distinguished School, Portola Elementary is a K-5 school in the San Bruno Park School District. In addition to the school's core curriculum, students receive academic help in the Homework Club, which focuses on reading and math skills.
Portola supports students before and after school with a variety of programs that help to meet individual needs. Students receive academic help in the Early Bird/Late Bird tutorial program, with a focus on reading and math skills. The older students learn new games and get homework help in Kids’ Club, a Park and Recreation-sponsored program. The younger children work on art activities in the Champions daycare program.
The school is one of five schools in the district to have an API of 800 or higher. The school received a 2010 Honor Roll Award from the California Business for Academic Excellence Foundation.
