Dr. Patrick M. Chen is a board-certified UCI Health neurologist who specializes in neurocritical care. His clinical interests include concussion, traumatic brain injury (TBI), multimodal neuromonitoring and brain health. Chen earned his medical degree at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth in Hanover, N.H. He completed an internal medicine internship at Legacy Emanuel Health in Portland, Ore. Next he completed a residency in neurology at UC San Diego Medical Center, where he served as chief resident. Chen's longstanding research focus is on traumatic brain injury, including concussion and advanced multimodal neuromonitoring. He currently is exploring the intersection of concussion and TBI with chronic disease and brain health. He is the author or coauthor of more than two dozen research papers published in such peer-reviewed journals as JAMA, Neurology, Stroke and Neurocritical Care, and he has participated in numerous clinical trials.
