Founded in 1970 as a vehicle to discuss the relationship between the United States and Asia, the non-profit Pacific Studies Centre has evolved and become an information center for two organizations, Mountain View Voices for Peace (MVVP) and the Center for Public Environment Oversight (CPEO).
MVVP promotes non-violent movements and justice. Occassionally members meet on the corner of San Antonio Rd. and El Camino Real to demsontrate against war. Guest columnists contribute to MVVP's website, where the organizaton also tracks the American casualties of war.
CPEO aims to engage the public in issues of the environment, in particular, about areas designated "Superfund" sites and Brownfields. CPEO has an advisory board which advocates for the safe removal of toxins from former military bases. Locally, CPEO focuses on two main projects: Moffett Field Restoration and Save Hanger One.
