New Roads School is a progressive, independent college-preparatory school. It promotes ethnic, racial, cultural and socio-economic diversity; the school's mantra is "inspiring education for an evolving world."
The New Roads School campus in Santa Monica is located on Olympic Blvd. and 31st St., and serves middle and high school students. Its other two campuses are in Los Angeles and Malibu.
In 2010, the Santa Monica Middle School and High School campuses were consolidated. Meanwhile, construction began on the Herb Alpert Educational Village, a joint venture between New Roads and the New Visions Foundation. Named after the former Santa Monica mayor and councilmember, the Village will be dedicated to educational research.
More than 50 percent of New Roads School are people of color; more than 35 percent of faculty are as well. More than 50 percent of students receive financial aid at New Roads School; it devotes at least 40 percent of its annual budget to financial aid.
While there are no Advanced Placement classes, New Roads School does offer an Advanced Honors curriculum and Independent Study program. All students seeking to go to college are accepted to a college or university.
