Founded in 1987, Mule Creek State Prison is spread over an area of more than 800 acres. It houses over 3,500 inmates and is a part of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, which is administered by the State of California. The prison offers a safe, secure and disciplined environment for criminal offenders. It administers training programs in coffee roasting, laundry, meat processing and digital mapping. The prison conducts various vocational programs in the fields of computer technology, electrical maintenance, graphic arts, small engine repair, welding, landscaping and gardening, and air conditioning and refrigeration. It offers religious and victim awareness programs. Mule Creek State Prison additionally administers English as a Second Language and literacy programs. It conducts parenting and creative conflict resolution classes for inmates.
