The Mountain View Fire Department operates under the government of the city of Mountain View, Calif., which also operates public works, library, police, community service and finance departments. The Mountain View Fire Department was founded in 1874 as a volunteer fire brigade. The department serves more than 71,000 residents. It responds to over 4,800 fire and medical emergency calls every year. The Mountain View Fire Department operates nearly five fire stations. The department provides fire suppression and rescue response, hazard prevention, education and disaster preparedness services. It employs a staff of more than 20 firefighters and volunteers. In addition, the department provides several life safety services. The Mountain View Fire Department offers assistance for situations related to fires, explosions, hazardous materials incidents and accidents.
