Founded in 1976 by Director Kathleen Mecca, Mount Tamalpais School is a private, co-ed day school for grades kindergarten through eighth.
The school seeks to provide students with a solid academic foundation and to foster a genuine enthusiasm for learning through a departmentalized, integrated curriculum that allows each teacher to use a variety of methods and materials to strengthen individual skills. According to Mecca, teachers operate in their areas of greatest strength and expertise, giving students the best of all worlds. The curriculum leans heavily towards math, science, performing arts, language and physical education.
A nonprofit organization, Mount Tamalpais School is governed by a board of trustees that includes parents, alumni parents, alumni and community members. The Parent Council holds social and fund-raising events and coordinates family volunteer assistance to the school.
