History
Our branch of MJLH has been taught at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) by Sifu Brian Tuan since 1981. Originally identified at UCI as the Tai Chi and Kung Fu Clubs, which eventually re-located to the newly built Anteater Recreation Center (ARC) in 2000, and was re-designated as the Kung Fu class. The Kung Fu class is still being taught at the ARC concurrently with the expansion of the new private studio location, established at the end of 2017, located in Lake Forest.
Specialties
We teach the traditional Chinese martial art of Mi Jong Lo Han (MJLH), Yang style Tai Chi, and Self Defense. MJLH is characterized by its high mobility and wide array of strikes, kicks, footwork, take-downs and classical weapons use. Movements are overtly employed through seemingly long range approaches and the dissonant use of timing, space, speed and power. Tai Chi is taught with breathing exercises to help calm the mind and body. Yang style is learned through the traditional long form. Self Defense is a course taught with a simple multi-layered approach. Defensive scenarios will be discussed along with learning various applications and techniques.
