John McHugh opened up McHugh's Towing and Auto Wrecking back in 1953, and although he still checks in every now and then, his daughter Sharon McHugh has taken over the reigns of running the daily operations. The shop has been serving Contra Costa County for more than 50 years and has been contracted by AAA since opening.
This family-run business is tucked away from the main road down a long driveway and up a secluded little hill, just behind Ashby Lumber. The quaint little storefront sells auto parts while the humongous junkyard handles your beaters and any non-operating vehicles. Its main services are auto towing, jumpstarts and lockouts. Its best feature? A 24-hour towing hotline manned by live operators.
