Our Mission is to provide low cost comprehensive mental health services to individuals, couples, families, and groups throughout Los Angeles County, and to provide training for interns and counselors who are working towards licensure in the mental health field. Our History began in 1969, when the Beverly Hills Board of Education and City Council jointly funded a contract for a community study recommending how Beverly Hills might best deal with the growing problems within the community. Following this study, the Beverly Hills Community Advisory Committee formed, and in July 1972, the Board of Education assigned a liaison from the district to function as Director of Training for a newly formed organization known as The Maple Center. Initially, we focused on the increasing drug problems identified by concerned parents and community members, using paraprofessionals and student peer counselors, but within a short time the Center hired professionals to address the growing needs within the community. Since our founding, TMCC has expanded its programs to all ages, and now serves all areas of Los Angeles. Today, with the help of interns and senior peer counselors who provide counseling and professional clinical staff members to supervise and coordinate programs, we provide services at our Beverly Hills office and at sites throughout the Los Angeles area. The goal has always been to provide low fee counseling for those in need where no one is turned away for lack of funds. Our Board of Directors and Officers is comprised of leading citizens who volunteer their time to raise funds and provide oversight for the goals and mission of TMCC. Our Board is dedicated to recruitment of members who reflect TMCC's growing needs and service population. Each year Board members renew their commitment to increase fundraising through the support of various events and personal solicitations. The Center's Board knows that mental illness affects more than the patient, as family members, friends, neighbors, and coworkers are also involved. Since our beginning, donors have been the mainstay of the Center. Generous individuals, concerned foundations, and community-oriented businesses have supported our programs and services.
