The Los Gatos Weekly Times was started by journalist Dan Pulcrano in 1982. Pulcrano merged the publication he had started after graduating from the University of California-Santa Cruz with the Los Gatos Times Observer in 1990.
The Weekly Times was owned by Metro Newspapers until 2001, when David Cohen, its co-publisher, took several of its sister papers and created Silicon Valley Community Newspapers (SVCN). In 2005, however, Cohen sold SVCN to Media News, which publishes the Mercury News.
The newspaper's editor today is Dick Sparrer, but Dale Bryant, executive editor of SVCN, served as editor for many years. Its offices are located at The Alameda, in San Jose. The newspaper is published weekly and provides local news, including education, business, sports and city government coverage. The newspaper claims to have 84,150 readers for both its weekly and Los Gatos Weekender inserted publication, and a circulation of 41,050. The publications are delivered to homes and businesses every Tuesday and Friday.
