Los Angeles County Flood Maintenance is a unit of the Los Angeles County Public Works department. Located in Arcadia, Calif., the department provides repair maintenance and improvement works of various flood control facilities, including dams, basins, channels, spreading grounds, pumping plants, seawater barrier projects and dam safety projects. The department controls the maintenance of flood control facilities that consist of more than 10 dams, over 450 miles of open channels, nearly 2,600 miles of underground storm drain and approximately 95,000 catch basins. Additionally, it operates and maintains more than 300 debris retaining structures, over 230 concrete stream bed stabilization structures, 40 pumping plants and nearly 27 spreading grounds throughout Los Angeles County in California. Its flood control system maintains more than 90 percent of the flood control facilities in the county. The catch basins for flood control collect rainwater and release it via the storm drainage system.
