The Long Beach Energy Resources Department, also known as the Gas Department, is a municipally-owned gas utility that is the seventh-largest in the United States. They provide reliable and price-competitive natural gas utility services to over 154,000 customer accounts and maintain 1,900 miles of main service pipeline.
In addition to their gas utility operations, the department also operates the Southeast Resource Recovery Facility (SERRF), which processes about 380,000 tons of solid waste and creates electricity from refuse. They also have a major oil field operation that produces approximately 10 million barrels annually, with a strong focus on environmental safety.
