The Bay Area Teachers Center offers a variety of courses to help newly-employed teachers and teaching interns from both public and private schools learn how to improve their craft with the eventual goal of becoming master teachers. Founded in 1997, the center offers a one-year single subject credential program through a partnership with San Francisco State University. The program, approved by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing, offers credentials in the same subject areas as art, English, foreign language, mathematics, music, physical education, science and social science. Its classes are scheduled conveniently for working teachers and provide a personalized, hands-on approach to teacher education. Most of the classes are offered at the Lick Wilmerding High School campus in San Francisco.
