Kern Union High School District, founded in 1893, operates more than 25 schools throughout California, and is one of the largest high school districts in the United States. It offers education to students in grades nine through 12, and has an enrollment of more than 35,000 students. The district curriculum includes a variety of subjects, such as English, mathematics, science, social and business studies, health and agriculture education, fine arts, family and consumer science, foreign languages and computers. It also offers various extracurricular activities to students, such as yearbook, marching and jazz band, choir, debate and declamation contests, and music and physical education. The sports activities offered by the district include golf, cross country, basketball, tennis, track, athletics, wrestling, volleyball, baseball and gymnastics.
