Adjacent to Martin Luther King Way and within walking distance of Civic Center Park on McKinly Avenue in the Institute for World Religions building is the Berkeley Buddhist Monastery. The modest temple is unpretentious and intimate yet very dignified, solemn and grand. The interior is decorated with Buddah and Bodhisattva figures on stained glass, statues of ceramics and wood, alters of flower, gongs, bowls and incense. Peace and serenity seem to emanate from every corner, and there is a genuine feeling of community and well being here. A variety of ceremonies, classes and meditations are offered to anyone seeking a moment of peace or a deeper understanding of the universe.
