CalWORKs is an ongoing public assistance food stamps program that includes temporary assistance for needy families. It coordinates programs to assist clients in achieving self-sufficiency within prescribed time limits under welfare reform. The program serves more than 3,520 participants annually. CalWORKs also provides cash assistance to families with children who are deprived of the support and care of parents due to death, absence, incapacity and unemployment. It conducts the Kin-GAP and Adoption Assistance program. The program is administered by Imperial County Department of Social Services, which provides basic subsistence and protection solutions to needy residents. The department is governed by Imperial County in California.
