Since 1978, Housing Alternatives has been dedicated to providing low-income housing to seniors. This non-profit organization develops cooperative apartment communities for seniors who need subsidized housing. Housemate matching programs are available, matching seniors with other seniors, mid-age and younger people in their homes, apartments and condominiums, so they may have affordable housing, company, sense of security and the ability to make ends meet. It is an alternative to living alone and to institutionalization. For seniors 55 and older, it offers co-op style living, and in West Hollywood it has single and one-bedroom apartments. Seniors 62 and older have different co-op style residences available in the Los Angeles and West Hollywood areas.
