Founded in 1968, Horsemanship For the Handicapped is a non-profit program that helps handicaped and disabled children with their balance, posture, stamina, coordination and muscle development by teaching them to ride specially-trained horses.
The program helps them socially by introducing them to friends and provides a group of supportive people to spend time with. It also provides a sense of accomplishment and can even help some overcome fears such as heights and animals.
