Horace Mann School, a state-certified school, and is located in Beverley Hills, Calif. It is named after the senator in the Massachusetts legislature who helped to create the nation's first state board of education, served as its first secretary and created a system of public schools in Massachusetts that would become a model for public education throughout the United States. Founded in 1929, it enrolls more than 700 students and offers classes in grades kindergarten through eight. The school is made up of four buildings, the elementary, middle school, library and science building and the annex building. Its educational program challenges all students to discover their talents, develop their abilities and achieve their full potential. Subjects include the basics, English, math, social studies and science, other subjects, such as speech, reading and Spanish, and a variety of electives, that include debate, art, science lab, music, computers, technology and video production.
