The California Highway Patrol is a statewide law enforcement organization. Based in Burney, Calif., the organization enforces the provisions of the California Vehicle Code and other laws to prevent traffic accidents and crime in the state. It divides into two major operations, staff and field, which collectively oversee the Office of Air Operations, Protective Services Division and the State Security Division as well as the eight geographic divisions within California, along with providing executive level oversight of three administrative divisions and four offices. The organization also conducts community welfare and educational/informational programs in traffic safety, dangers of drugs/alcohol, self-defense and crime prevention.
