The Henrietta Weill Memorial Child Guidance Clinic, based in Bakersfield, Calif., is a private, nonprofit outpatient mental health center for children. Established in 1946, it provides counseling services for children, adolescents and families who reside in Kern County, Calif. Children and adolescents are referred to the clinic because of difficulties that interfere with their functioning at home, in school or in the community, due to problems relating to control, attention, mood and anger management. It also serves children and adolescents who have experienced various forms of abuse, neglect and other hardships that affect their lives. Each individual seen at the clinic receives an initial assessment at which time a treatment plan is developed by the family and the therapist. Treatment includes parent education groups and counseling for individuals, family and groups. A psychiatrist is available to provide medication support services.
