The Department of Health Care Services, also known as DHCS, protects and promotes the health status of citizens of California through the financing and delivery of individual health care services. It administers a range of individual health care service delivery programs, including the California Medical Assistance Program, California Children s Services program, Child Health and Disability Prevention program and Genetically Handicapped Persons Program. The Department of Health Care Services is a part of the California Health and Human Services Agency. The Department of Health Care Services works with health care professionals, county governments and health plans to provide a health care safety network for California s low-income people and individuals with disabilities. It also helps in maintaining the financial viability of specialized care services, such as burn and trauma centers and children s specialty hospitals. The Department of Health Care Services maintains one of its locations in Oakland, Calif.
