Alameda's First Presbyterian Church is one Alameda's oldest. Established in 1865, after some decades the congregation purchased land at the corner of Santa Clara and Chestnut Avenues, and the building was dedicated in 1904. In 1977, the City of Alameda identified the church as an Alameda Historical Monument and now the church boosts a full roster of community and worship activities, including prayer groups, Bible study groups, men's and women's associations, health ministries and local, national and international missions. It also hosts a vacation Bible school and has youth and adult choirs.
