Fair Oaks Cemetery is located in a residential neighborhood. The atmosphere is tranquil with dozens of trees and shrubs scattered throughout the cemetery. There are appearances from various forms of wildlife, including squirrels and deer. Approximately 7,500 people have been laid to rest here. The movies Diggstown and Lone Hero had small parts filmed here. It is a public district cemetery, and the district boundaries go as far east as the El Dorado County line and as far west as the Interstate 80. There is a smaller area across the street from the main plot of land that is dedicated to war veterans. Some of the veterans buried here were involved in the Civil War.
