After teaching and practicing for 13 years at UCSF, Dr. Diao retired in October 2006. Right after, Dr. Diao started practicing at this private practice to continue delivering his specialized services.

Dr. Edward Diao is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon serving patients in San Francisco, California. He is currently welcoming new patients at Edward Diao, MD. Dr. Diao is a first-generation American who was born and raised in New York City, where he attended the Bronx High School of Science. He attended Harvard University on a scholarship, graduating Magna Cum Laude, with Highest Honors in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Dr. Diao received his MD degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and was awarded by the New York Orthopaedic Hospital Award for Outstanding Achievement in Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Diao completed his residency at Massachusetts General Hospital under the Harvard Combined Orthopaedic Program, and he received the Resident Teacher of the Year Award, served as chief resident, and received a Cave Fellowship for research. Dr. Diao completed his fellowship for hand and upper extremity surgery at the Roosevelt Hospital Hand Surgery Service in New York City under William Littler, Richard Eaton, and Steve Glickel. He moved to San Francisco in 1993 where he was Chief of the Division of Hand, Upper Extremity and Microvascular Surgery at the University of California San Francisco Medical Center for 13 years, and established post-graduate fellowships in clinical care and research.
