The Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, also known as Jerry L. Pettis Memorial Veterans Medical Center, has more than 2,100 employees that serve 57,000 veterans under the VA program. It is one of the top 50 employers in the Inland Empire. The medical center provides a wide range of services through inpatient, outpatient and home care programs. Along with all primary services, the center provides alcohol and drug treatment, health care for homeless veterans, a military sexual trauma program, Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom services, vet to vet peer support and a woman veterans health program. The major bed services are medicine, surgery, behavioral medicine and neurology. The facility has 97 acute care beds and a 108 bed nursing home care unit. The center opened in 1977. It serves San Bernardino and Riverside counties.
