The new Animal Care Facility opened in May 2010. The unit has come a long way from its original office in the windowless basement of the Police Department.
Thanks to the support of PAWS, the new facility has plenty of light-filled space, where cats and dogs can play and sleep while they await adoption. This unit operates under the Coronado Police Department and offers a range of services, including pet licensing. This department also handles calls about dogs running at large.
For those interested in pet adoption, there is a "get acquainted" room. In addition, the facility has a turf grass play area out back and multiple rooms for housing stray animals.
Animal lovers can volunteer to serve as dog walkers and cat petters. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old and need to register through the Police Department.
Note: The Animal Care Facility is a no-kill facility.
