Community Action Commission of Santa Barbara County, also known as CAC, is one of the largest private, nonprofit social service agencies that serve the low-income community. Founded in 1967, it offers a range of education, teenage pregnancy prevention, job placement, mental health, home weatherization, meal and utility assistance services. The agency administers an independent living program that includes mentoring, education, employment, and daily living, social and computer skill services for youths. Community Action Commission of Santa Barbara County provides parenting education and dental and mental health screenings through its children s program. It operates a family service center that offers various translation, transportation, clothing, food and rental assistance services. The agency s programs are accredited by the Department of Health and Human Services. Community Action Commission of Santa Barbara County maintains a location in Santa Maria, Calif.
