The office for Casa De Amparo ("House of Refuge") is located in the Copperwood Courtyard office complex. This nonprofit association deals with child abuse issues in San Diego County. The association was formed in 1978 by a group of concerned citizens who felt the situation was too overwhelming for the government's social services agencies.
Casa’s initial plan was to be a children’s shelter for those removed from parents' custody due to abuse, neglect or from foster homes. Today, it coordinates five programs addressing the individual needs of children from birth through young adulthood. It also has programs to counsel families in group therapy.
