The Carolyn Parr Nature Museum showcases animals and plants native to North Bay. In addition to being a fun stop for the whole family with a green lawn and outdoor recreation area, it's a great resource and learning center. The museum runs monthly programs introducing different wildlife and plants. Private tours for groups may also be booked in advance for $15.
Taxidermic animals in glass cases offer snapshots into the habitats of different species. If you're not sure how to deal with a cougar encounter on your hiking trails, you'll not only find literature on the subject at the center, but a wealth of information from the passionate volunteers. Joyce Nichols, who runs the center, is the president of the Napa Valley Naturalists. Membership is available at $5-50 per year.
